Morne Morkel sustains an injury in his farewell Test
The lanky fast bowler will be itching to take some wickets in the second innings.
The ongoing fourth and final Test match of South Africa will be the last for Morne Morkel as he had announced his retirement prior to the start of the series. A lot has happened off the field so far that his farewell has almost gone overshadowed. The veteran also won the Man of the Match in the last game after picking 9 wickets in the match and scripting a memorable victory for South Africa. However, he has sustained an injury during his farewell Test match which comes as a sad news for the Proteas fans.
The hosts are currently bossing the ongoing Test match as they bundled out the Aussies for just 221 runs thereby securing the huge first innings lead of 267 runs. But the lanky fast bowler Morkel was seen struggling during his spell in the first session of the third day’s play. He stopped midway while bowling his 13th over of the innings and went into the dressing room much to the disappointment of the crowd. The remainder of the over was completed by Aiden Markram.
Morkel to ‘push on’
However, Morne Morkel came back on the field with 15 minutes to go for lunch which made the crowd excited. Meanwhile, according to Sport 24, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that the bowler is struggling with side strain once again. It is a similar injury which he had picked up against Bangladesh last year. Moreover, an injury to him might have influenced the decision of Faf du Plessis to not influence follow-on as well.
South Africa are currently batting in their second innings and are looking to build on the healthy lead which they gained in the first innings. The match has almost gone out of the hands of the visitors and it would be interesting to see the way try to fight back from this position.
