Bangladesh had a terrific time in Sri Lanka and for the first time in their lifetime, the Bangla Tigers managed to draw all three series by 1-1 margins. While they made terrific comebacks in the Test and the T20I series, they let Sri Lanka off the hook in the ODI series which resulted in the island nation levelling the series 1-1.

It has been a sensational last year and a half for Bangladesh as they have won bilateral series against Pakistan, India and South Africa at home before levelling the Test series against England. It was a sensational achievement from Bangladesh to win their first Test against a top Test playing team apart from West Indies and Bangladesh.

Captain Mashrafe Mortaza congratulated the team on their terrific performance in Sri Lanka but conceded that he would have been happier if Bangladesh won the ODI series. “It was a big disappointment that we couldn’t win the series 2-0. I would have been more satisfied had we won the third match. It was our chance to win a series away from home,” Mashrafe was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

While Bangladesh won the opening match at the Rangiri International Stadium in Dambulla, the 2nd match was abandoned due to rain. Sri Lanka came back strongly and returned triumphant by 70 runs in the final ODI to level the 3 match series 1-1.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan lauded the boys for their exceptional performance and was content with their series draws in all 3 formats. He heaped praises on the newcomers who proved their mettle in a big series and was optimistic about a bright future with the amount of talent Sri Lanka possess.

Meanwhile, Mashrafe Mortaza bid adieu to T20I cricket after playing the final match of the series. The Tigers gave him a resounding farewell with a comprehensive victory by 45 runs.
