Millions of cricket enthusiasts tune in to watch the ICC ODI World Cup, which is contested every four years, on television. The top 10 teams in the world at the moment take part in the competition. After weeks of difficult and grueling games, these ten teams compete against one another for the coveted silver-and-gold trophy. Even though cricket is a team sport, individual performances count since they have a significant impact on the game and determine how far the team will advance in the competition.
The World Cup is the competition for which we have to wait four years and the one that every team strives to win. Australia has won the World Cup four times, followed by India and the West Indies- who have won it twice- and most recently, England in 2019. The World Cup is the most-watched cricket competition worldwide. Over the years, fans have watched a lot of guys score a lot of runs in the mega event, and scoring a century on the biggest stage of all is certainly a matter of pride for any batter.
By far, in the history of the tournament, Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar are the players who have scored the most number of hundreds. The star Indian opener Rohit Sharma have scored seven centuries in the history of the tournament till now and Sachin scored six centuries . Tendulkar played six World Cups in his career, whereas Sharma has represented India in just two World Cups this far.
The 36-year-old batter went on to score five centuries in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to quickly jump the ladder of most centuries in the history of the tournament and total seven, he scored till now. The second on the list of most number of centuries is again shared by three legends, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Virat Kohli, who have scored five centuries for their respective teams. The Australian legend played five World Cups to achieve this feat, whereas the Sri Lankan maestro represented his national side on four different occasions to achieve this feat. Virat Kohli also represent his country for four times in ODI World Cup.
The ICC World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played in India and Rohit Sharma become the player to score the most number of centuries surpassing legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar.
