In a format like Test cricket, every team wants its batsmen to play long innings. This helps the side in posting big totals and getting ahead in the game. The major milestone for any batsman is to score a century, and if he maintains his rhythm he can convert it into a double century as well.

There have been some players in Test cricket history who have hit double hundreds more often than others. In this particular article, we will be listing out those players who have smashed the most numbers of Test double tons. Among these, three players are tied in the fourth position, and they have been arranged in the reverse order of matches played.

6. Mahela Jayawardene – 7

Former Sri Lanka captain was one of the major contributors for his side for a long duration of time in Test cricket. He aggregated 11814 runs in 149 Tests at an average of 49.84. He slammed a total of seven double centuries in his Test career. The right-hander registered 34 tons and 50 fifties with a high score of 374.

5. Virat Kohli – 7

Indian captain Virat Kohli has established himself among the all-time greats in such a short duration. So far, he has scored 7490 runs in 91 Tests at an average of 52.37. This includes 27 centuries, 7 double centuries and 25 half-centuries.  He has registered all his double tons as a captain which itself is a World record.

4. Wally Hammond – 9

Former English great Wally Hammond also has seven double hundreds to his name in the longest format. He amassed 7249 runs in 85 Test at an average of 58.45. This includes 22 centuries and 24 fifties with a high score of 336*.

3. Brian Lara – 7

Former West Indies captain Brian Lara stands at the third spot in this list with nine double tons in the Test format. He scored 11953 runs in 131 games at an average of 52.88 with the help of 38 hundreds and 52 half-centuries. He also holds the record for the highest individual score of 400* in five-day cricket.

2. Kumar Sangakkara – 11

Former Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara is second in the list of most double hundreds scored in Test cricket history. He scored 12400 runs in 134 Tests at an average of 57.40. He registered 38 centuries, 11 double centuries and 52 fifties in his Test career with a high score of 319.

1. Don Bradman – 12

Don Bradman, the greatest ever cricketer to ever play the game, tops this record tally. He scored 6996 runs in 52 Tests at an extraordinary average of 99.94. The legendary batsman slammed 12 double tons in his playing days. He also hit 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries with a high score of 334.
