World Cup 2023: Most Ducks in ODI World Cup History

The ODI World Cup is the biggest cricket event and also a grand platform for every young or veteran player to represent his country. Every player enters the World Cup with the desire to contribute something special to his nation and make history while frequently thinking about their hundreds, averages, and strike rates.

It’s a dream for every batter to score runs and help his country to win the tournament for which they also give their all to the event and prepare for it. But sometimes, the pressure went too much on the head which led the players to do mistakes and the biggest fear of a batter is to get out on a duck in the ODI World Cup.

When a batter gets out on zero, it’s called a ’duck’ and if he gets out on the very first ball, it’s called a ‘golden duck’. Many big players have suffered from this unwanted record and it is probably the most embarrassing thing for a batter to get out without scoring a single run for the team.

Former New Zealand opening batter Nathan Astle is in the top spot with the most number of ducks in the ODI World Cup. Astle has represented his team in 3 editions - 1996, 1999, and 2003 and got out on a duck 5 times. Former Pakistan batter Ijaz Ahmed who plays in the no. 3 position for the most time in his career also dismissed 5 times on a duck.

Former Irish allrounder William MacCallen holds the most embarrassing record when it comes to getting out on a duck in World Cup. He was featured in only one World Cup in his career which was the 2007 edition and got out 4time on a duck. He played 9 matches in the tournament and scored only 33 runs. Another former legendary cricketer AB de Villiers, who also led South Africa in the 2015 edition, also got dismissed 4 times on a duck in ODI World Cup history.
