Most run outs in an ODI match: Although people generally think that Cricket is all about batting, bowling and fielding. Up to an extent they are right but certainly these are not the only things which constitute the game. There are many basic things which might seem to have little impact on the game but have certainly the capacity to turn around the game on its head. Generally the significance of things like running between the wickets and clear calling in a loud and jam-packed stadium go unnoticed. Especially when the fight between the two teams goes to the wire, these basic things turn paramount.

And we can also not rule out the role of fielders in effecting run-outs. No one cares about the mode of dismissal, at the end of the day what matters is the end result whether it’s a run-out or a batsman gets castled out by a bowler which signifies how a run-out can also effect the outcome of the match. Even if there are chances in the field and batsmen commit mistakes misjudging runs. It is then that better teams stand out from the rest, a good fielding unit has the ability to pick a wicket even if their bowlers aren’t able to.

ODI cricket is fast-paced format and the role of fielders in the inner ring and in the outfield turns even more momentous. If batters can take easy singles, it reduces the pressure of the mounting run-rate as the score board keeps ticking with the ones and twos. But having sharp men at the right positions definitely discourage them to challenge the fielder and more often than not saves the team runs.

As soon as the opportunities to sneak singles or doubles diminishes, which is quite the low-risk mode of scoring runs, the batters are left with the only option of attacking the bowlers or taking the aerial route which involves equal risk and reward.

Although, the Australian’s and New Zealander’s are renowned for their athleticism and art of running brilliantly between the wickets but yet their batsmen have been involved in getting run-out for most number of times in an ODI.
