Indian Premier League has established itself among the most competitive tournaments in the sports arena. It has impacted the cricket game to a great extent over the years. With the rise of IPL, the batters have found new ways of scoring runs which make the job of bowlers more difficult. Sometimes, if a bowler is not having a great day, it can lead to him being too much expensive. It also depends if a set batsman is playing against a bowler which can prompt the particular batsman to go for the big shots. In this article, we will be discussing the five bowling performances in IPL where the bowlers conceded the most runs in an innings.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium at Delhi in IPL 2024 was notorious for very high scores and this match was not an exception. Playing for the Gujarat Titans against the Delhi Capitals at Delhi in IPL 2024, Mohit Sharma was carted to all parts of the Stadium while giving away as many as 73 runs in his four overs. The worst of it came in the last over of the innings when Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant carted him for 2,wd,6,4,6,6,6 helping DC to 224. While none of DC's bowlers conceded even 50 runs, they could win the match by just 4 runs as a thriller ensued in the last over.

In the IPL game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the SRH bowler Basil Thampi gave away 70 runs which is a record in this regard. RCB had a bad start in this game as they lost their first 2 wickets for 38 runs. Thereafter it was all about smashing all over the park as AB de Villiers, Moeen Ali and Colin de Grandhomme played some explosive innings putting SRH on the backfoot. Among the bowlers, Basil Thampi had to bear the brunt of this assault the most. RCB finished their innings after scoring 218/6 in 20 overs and managed a win by 14 runs in the end.

In an IPL 2023 game against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Gujarat Titans Bowler Yash Dayal gave away 69 runs in his 4 overs quota. He was taken to the cleaners in last over as Rinku singh smashed 5 sixes in his last over, eventually chasing 30 runs in last over.

IPL 2024 saw many high scoring matches and the record for the highest IPL team total broken twice in the ssame season by just one team. While playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, England left arm pacer Reece Topley was taken to the cleaners by the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen for 68 runs in his four overs. Topley did manage to take one wicket, but it was hardly any comfort as SRH broke their own record for the highest team total in the IPL by posting 287/3 helped by a century from Travis Head, a fifty from Heinrich Klaasen and a late blitzkreig by Abdul Samad. RCB though, showed some aggressive batting of their own and put up 262/7 themselves mainly contributed by Dinesh Karthik.

The next name is again from IPL 2024, and is also of another left arm fast bowler from England - Luke Wood. This match was also at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Playing for Mumbai Indians, Wood gave away 68 runs in his four overs while taking one wicket against Delhi Capitals who made 257/4 powered by the Australian sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk's 27-ball 84. As was the norm at Delhi in IPL 2024, MI too got within just 10 runs of the target but the mountain felt too steep to climb.

In IPL 2013, Ishant Sharma of SRH did not have a great day with the ball as he went for too many runs in his 4-over quota. CSK had scored 223/3 in their 20 overs with Suresh Raina playing a brilliant knock of 99 runs off 52 balls including 11 fours and 3 sixes. Ishant Sharma conceded 66 runs in his 4 overs, which was the record for most expensive bowling figures at that time. Chasing this big total, SRH could score only 146/8 thus losing the match by 77 runs.

In the IPL 2019 game between SRH and Punjab, it was time for SRH batters to attack with the bat as they put up a total of 212/6 in 20 overs. David Warner was the top scorer for them with 81 runs off 56 balls. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the bowler for Punjab who was targeted the most by SRH batters. He conceded 66 runs in his 4 overs, which was a record for that season. SRH won this match by 45 runs as they restricted the Punjab team to 167/8.

In the IPL 2023 game between PBKS and MI, Mumbai Indians chased massive total of 215 in 18.5 overs , MI batters went bonkers against the Punjab bowler Arshdeep Singh and as they smashed him 66 runs in his 3.5 overs.

Kwena Maphaka had soared some never before seen heights in his career. Still a schoolboy, Maphaka was the highest wicket taker and was named the Player of the Tournament at the Men's Under-19 World Cup in his home country of South Africa in 2024. This also prompted him to be signed as a replacement player by the Mumbai Indians. Maphaka played his first IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But it wasn't all roses for the 17 year old Maphaka as he got sent all over the park giving away 66 runs as SRH broke the then record for the highest team total in the IPL on the back of record breakin fifties from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma with another supporting fifty from Heinrich Klaasen.
