The fourth edition of the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) got underway on Thursday, June 15. The entirety of the league will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) International Stadium in Pune and the summit clash will take place on Thursday, June 29.
Much like the Indian Premier League (IPL), the MPL too has a round-robin format wherein each team will play every other team twice in a round-robin fashion as per the MPL Schedule. As many as six teams are part of the event namely- Puneri Bappa, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings, Eagle Nashik Titans, Kolhapur Tuskers, Solapur Royals, and Ratnagiri Jets.
Following the conclusion of the group stage matches, the top four teams in the MPL Points Table will progress to the playoffs. This includes the Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the final, which will begin on June 26.
The MPL was the first T20 tournament organized by a state committee in 2009. After three seasons, from 2009-2011, the event has been revived nearly after a decade. Raigad Royals won the inaugural season whereas Sinhagad Supremos attained glory in 2010 and Devgiri Emperors in 2011. The six teams in the current season will look to come all guns blazing and push through to clinch the coveted title.
