Ever since he hit those three consecutive fifties against Australia in the ODI series last month and helped India to win their first bilateral series Down Under, MS Dhoni looks a relaxed man. The World Cup-winning former skipper struggled with the bat for over a year and the pressure was rising, putting chances of him playing in what seems to be his final World Cup in uncertainty. But the return to form with a bang in Australia now makes it almost certain that the 37-year-old will play in his fourth WC.

Dhoni, who will be playing in India’s upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia at home starting February 24, recently appeared for a charity football match in Juhu, Mumbai, where some celebrities were also present. The 37-year-old took out time after the game to greet his fans who came to see his footballing skills. There, Dhoni was seen interacting with a kid, even though the latter seemed to have turned down the offer when the iconic cricketer offered to pick him up.

“Aaogey?” the wicket-keeper-batsman was heard telling the kid who was with a woman before he gave it up and proceeded to his waiting vehicle. The video went viral on social media.

Dhoni has over 10k runs and over 400 dismissals behind the stumps

Dhoni is one of the two members of the Indian ODI squad to have over 10,000 runs under his belt (the other is captain Virat Kohli). He has played in 335 matches for India since making debut in 2004 and is only the third after Sachin Tendulkar (463) and Rahul Dravid (340). In keeping, Dhoni is the most successful that India has produced with 430 dismissals and only the third globally, after Kumar Sangakkara (482) and Adam Gilchrist (472).

The fans will be looking up to Dhoni to continue with his good form found in 2019 into the Australia series. Experts are of the opinion that the cricketer with a sea of experience will be one of Kohli’s trump cards in this WC and if the man can back his sharp reading of the game from behind the stumps with his willow, India will be in for even a greater gain.

Next month, however, Dhoni will be challenged by Kohli as their teams – Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively, will take on each other in the opening game of IPL 2019 in Chennai.
