MS Dhoni asks people to respect armed forces
Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his love for the Indian Army is quite well known. When not playing cricket the skipper makes sure that he joins the Army for training since he holds the position of honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army. Dhoni was awarded the honorary position back in 2011 and had in 2015 undergone training with the para-jumping troop and completed five jumps at the 50 Independent Para Brigade base. MS Dhoni today urged people to respect the armed forces as it is their efforts that keep us safe.
MS Dhoni who is not regularly active on the social media put out a tweet which read: “As v have this debate on freedom of speech our forces r making sure v stay in position to keep debating,”
He followed it up with another tweet in which he stated that the men in uniform are also normal people like us, the only difference is that they are highly motivated, trained and for them, the interest of the country is the highest priority. “Spl forces and commando unit’s r normal ppl like u and me who r highly motivated and trained to put the interest of the nation before self,”
Dhoni chose to express his view at a point when there is a huge debate going on in the country on the freedom of expressions. It picked up after a group of students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi organized an event to protest against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
