MS Dhoni’s free time has increased nowadays as the ace wicket-keeper-batsman is now playing only in the ODIs. His next international assignment will only be in the middle of January when India take on Australia in a three-match ODI series. Nevertheless, Dhoni continues to be key figure in India’s bid for the third world title in England in May-July next year.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly gave the 37-year-old a golden advice ahead of his next international game besides hailing him as a “champion”. Dhoni though has been as effective with his glove work behind the stumps, his batting form has dipped alarmingly and his slow scoring rate has often earned the wrath of the fans. Yet, everybody, from fans to former players, want to see the legendary player taking a momentous farewell from the game.
“Just like everyone else he has to perform. There’s one must in life: whatever job you do, wherever you are, whatever age you have, how much experience you have, you have to keep performing at the top level otherwise someone else will take your place,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Times Now.
“I wish him (Dhoni) all the luck because we want champions to go on a high, whenever he goes. I still feel he can hit the ball in the stands. He’s a phenomenal cricketer.”
2018 has been an ordinary year for Dhoni with bat
The year 2018 saw MS Dhoni doing ordinarily in the ODIs with the bat with not a single fifty and averaging only 25, which is only higher than that of his debut year (2004) when he scored 19 runs in three matches.
Dhoni was recently dropped from India’s scheme of things in the T20Is as the selectors decided to look forward to the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020. He did not play in the series against the Windies at home which India won 3-0 and also the three-match series in Australia which was drawn 1-1.
