Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni has been straining to find his feet in limited-overs cricket of late. He flattered to deceive in England and was also booed by the audience at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He hasn’t played any knock of substance in the last few months owing to which many have raised questions over his credentials to represent the national team.

The 37-year-old is currently playing in the five-match ODI series against the Windies and hasn’t been up to the mark on pitches, which have been batting friendly. Recently, the selectors decided to sideline him from the T20I squad for the series against the Caribbean team followed by the three-match T20I series against Australia, which gets underway next month at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Dhoni likely to be back very soon

It was also learned that the decision was taken after the approval of Virat Kohli, India’s all-format captain, and Rohit Sharma, the captain for the Windies T20I series. In the meantime, it is likely that Dhoni could be back as the country’s number one keeper as per reports in Mumbai Mirror. Apart from the T20I series, India are also scheduled to play three ODIs Down Under.

Moreover, the Men in Blue will also play five ODIs and three T20Is against New Zealand, starting January 23. It’s likely that the Jharkhand-born cricketer is likely to feature in the matches and try to get his rhythm back before the World Cup next year in England and Wales. The veteran has done well in ICC events and a lot would be expected of him in the 50-overs mega tournament.

Arun Pandey, Dhoni’s manager, mentioned that the cricketer is determined to perform well. “He is focussed on the game,” Pandey mentioned. The officials of the Chennai Super Kings for whom Dhoni has plied his trade ever since the inaugural season in 2008, has echoed Pandey’s words, saying that the experienced campaigner remains their main man.
