MS Dhoni didn't have any say in dropping Gambhir and Yuvraj: Sandeep Patil

Indian skipper, MS Dhoni has been often criticised after senior players like Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir were dropped from the Indian national team.

The Indian skipper has been openly criticised by Yograj Singh, Yuvraj Singh’s father after his son being dropped from the Indian team more than once. However, the former chief selector Sandeep Patil has now revealed that the Indian skipper was innocent and he doesn’t have a say in dropping Gambhir and Yuvraj.

Patil said that he feel disappointed to see reports speaking about Dhoni’s relation with Gambhir and Yuvraj and lamented that the current limited-overs skipper have never opposed their selection. “I feel disappointed when I read reports about Dhoni’s relation with Gambhir and Yuvraj. Dhoni never opposed their selection,” said Patil.

He further added saying that it was the selectors, who made the call to drop these cricket players and also said that both the captains had never opposed any player. “It was completely the selectors’ decision to drop them and Dhoni did not have any say in dropping Gambhir and Yuvraj. Both the captains never opposed any player,” added Patil.

Yuvraj and Gambhir are two of the India’s world cup heroes, who has been vital in India’s title victory in the ICC World Cup 2011 and in the World T20 2007. Yuvraj was awarded as the player of the tournament in WC2011 whereas Gambhir top scored in the final of WT20 2007 against Pakistan.

Recently, Patil has also revealed that had Sachin Tendulkar not announced his retirement from the sport in December 2012, the selectors would have taken a unanimous decision to drop him from the side.
