MS Dhoni has earned a lot in the game of cricket with his adept batting, wicketkeeping, and captaincy skills. Before playing international cricket, he struggled a lot to achieve his dream of becoming a successful cricketer for India. However, with his hard work and determination, he achieved his dream. During his remarkable journey, his family members stood like a rock with him.
MS Dhoni’s father Pan Singh has a crucial role in his successful life. As a parent, he ensured that his all three children get quality education. However, during MS’s initial playing days, he did not support his younger son to represent his school’s cricket team. The father of the World Cup-winning skipper wanted his son to concentrate on academics to thrive in the future.
In 2001, Dhoni secured a job as a Travelling Ticket Examiner at Kharagpur railway station after clearing a TTE exam. The moment made Mr. Singh proud and gave him an opportunity to be jubilant over his son’s success. In 2004, Dhoni quit his job to follow his dream to become a cricketer. Observing his son’s passion for the sport, Pan Singh fully supported him.
Currently, Mr. Singh is retired from MECON, a public sector Enterprise that comes under the control of the Ministry of Steel. In 2011, he said India are the favourites to win the tenth edition of the One-Day International World Cup. On April 2, 2011, Dhoni lifted the trophy and proved his father right.
In MS Dhoni’s life, his mother Devaki Devi has stood with him through thick and thin. In childhood, Dhoni enjoyed the immense support of his mother to become a cricketer. In 2016, Dhoni sported his mother’s name on the back of his jersey in an ODI match against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam.
Not many are aware of the fact that MS Dhoni has an elder brother, who is 10 years older than him. In his biopic MSD: The Untold Story released in September 2016, there was no mention of his eldest sibling Narendra Singh Dhoni.
Currently, Narender is active in politics as he is associated with Samajwadi Party (SP) since 2013. Before joining the SP, he was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Unlike MS Dhoni, Narender lives a low-key life in his native village in Uttarakhand. However, he is an active Facebook user who has more than 12.5 K followers.
On November 21, 2007, Narender got married to his wife, and after a few years, the couple welcomed two kids; a son and a daughter. While talking about his absence from MS’s biopic, Narender said that he doesn’t have many contributions to his brother’s life. He further added that the movie is about MS Dhoni, not his family. Narender also disclosed that he has been away from his home since 1991.
MS Dhoni has an elder sister named Jayanti, who is very close to him. Jayanti, along with her mother Devaki Devi, played a key role in making Dhoni a successful cricketer. The legendary cricketer’s elder sister works as an English teacher and is married to Gautam Gupta, who is into various businesses, including real estate as well.
In 2008, Sakshi met MS while working as an intern at Taj Bengal, Kolkata. On the last day of her internship, Sakshi met the star cricketer through a common friend. After the meeting, Dhoni asked for Sakshi’s number through the friend and both started their relationship.
On July 4, 2010, MS Dhoni married Sakshi in Dehradun after having more than a couple of years of relationship. After marriage, she is a parent to Ziva Dhoni, who was born in February 2015. Sakshi was born in Assam and got her primary education at Welham Girls School in Dehradun.
She also holds a degree in hotel management from the Institute of Hotel Management, Aurangabad. During IPL games, Sakshi is seen cheering for Dhoni and his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the stands. The CSK stalwart’s wife remains active on Instagram and has 4.8 million followers.
On February 6, 2015, Sakshi Dhoni gave birth to a baby girl, whom she named Ziva. At the time of her birth, Ziva’s father MS Dhoni didn’t take paternity leave as he was on duty serving the Indian cricket team in the 2015 World Cup. Ziva also has an Instagram account which is managed by her father MS Dhoni and her mother Sakshi Dhoni. So far, she has got 2 million followers on the social networking site.
