MS Dhoni has a significant fan-following owing to the plethora of records he has garnered over the years. He first captained the team in the 2007 World T20 in South Africa and after the success in the event, he was handed over the ODI captaincy as well. He was appointed as the Test skipper in 2008 and the Jharkhand-born cricketer hasn’t backtracked ever since.
On July 7, the veteran turned 37 and the entire cricketing fraternity coupled with the commoners wished him on the auspicious occasion. Over the years, a number of supporters have resorted to certain methods to impress the former Indian captain. Recently, Pranav Jain from Bangalore, an ardent supporter, gifted him two cans of his favourite tea as a birthday present.
Ab chai ke badle pachas autograph lega
The fan knows Dhoni for quite a while now. Last month, when Dhoni was in Bangalore for the mandatory yo-yo test, Pranav met him all three times. He has also lost the count of the number of times, he met the enigmatic personality. The stalwart can now recognise the supporter from the crowd and has interacted with him on many occasions.
“On the first day, he was practicing at the National Cricket Academy. I met him after that and we casually spoke for a little while about his birthday for around five to 10 minutes. I got a couple of photographs,” Pranav was quoted as saying in The New Indian Express.
“When he was on his way back to his hotel, I met him. I told him that there were only three weeks left. He replied Kai ke liye (what for). I said it’s ‘someone’s birthday’. He then said chal hat, ek saal aurbuddha (one more year older). The people near me heard this and started laughing,” he mentioned.
“When he saw me with the cans, he said, ab chai ke badle pachas autograph lega (now in exchange for the tea, will you take 50 autographs?). I told him I just wanted two for now and the rest of 48, I will take later,” Pranav added.
