MS Dhoni felicitated at Eden Gardens; Ganguly gets stand named after him
Former India skipper MS Dhoni was felicitated at the final ODI between India and England played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in between the two innings. Moreover, the award was fittingly handed over by former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, who handed over the citation to Dhoni during the event.
One of those present for the awarding of the citation was Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly who has been in the news in recent times following the vacation of the President’s post of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Ganguly had a lot to be happy about despite the fact that India fell short by a slender six-run margin as there was a stand named after him on the day of the match.
As is a new tradition each match will see stands named after former Indian players, one of whom is Sourav Ganguly. The late Jagmohan Dalmiya, the former president of the BCCI also had his name up in lights following a stand named after him as well.
“On the next match, four other stands will be named after JC Mukherjee, AN Ghosh, and two war heroes. The Army is yet to finalize the names of the war heroes,” Ganguly said. “In 2009 Jagmohan Dalmiya took the initiative but the Army did not give permission. We are thankful for the ministry of defense to have allowed us to do so,” he added.

India went on to lose the match by a handful of runs after Kedar Jadhav was dismissed soon after smashing 10 runs from the first two deliveries. However, there was also the wicket of Jadhav when he tried to complete the match in quick time as Woakes held his nerve to close out the game.
Sunil Gavaskar went ahead and became only the second individual to ring the bell in the Eden Gardens to mark the start of play between the Indians and the English.
