Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chief executive, Kasi Viswanathan, heaped praises on skipper MS Dhoni, saying that the veteran knows the art of bringing the best out his team. On Tuesday, November 30, CSK retained Dhoni as their second player for INR 12 crores along with Ravindra Jadeja (INR 16 crores), Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 8 crores), Moeen Ali (INR 6 crores) for IPL 2022.
Back in October, Dhoni guided CSK to their fourth IPL title, beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Although the 40-year-old Dhoni wasn’t at his best with the bat in the tournament, he captained the Yellow Army with a lot of precision.
Viswanathan said that Dhoni’s skills as the captain don’t warrant questioning by any means. The veteran put forth his views on the Jharkhand-born Dhoni while speaking on a video posted by the Super Kings on social media.
CSK CEO lauds MS Dhoni
“Thala has been the mainstay of CSK. He has been a captain who has delivered for us. He gets the best out of the team every time he plays. As far as we are concerned, Thala plays a major role because he controls the team, and the team is benefitted by his experience. Nobody can doubt his skills as a captain,” Viswanathan said.
Viswanathan also said that going back to playing at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the IPL 2022 would give the Super Kings a lot of advantage.
“Chennai has been a very lucky ground for us, we had a good home advantage. That is because of the support we get from the CSK fans who throng to the stadium. I hope that this year, we get the entire MA Chidambaram Stadium for our use,” he stated.
Moreover, he also talked about getting back Faf du Plessis back in the auction after releasing him ahead of the retentions. Du Plessis was second in the list of leading run-scorers in IPL 2021.
“We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavour to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands,” Viswanathan added.
