Australia defeated India in the second T20I at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium by 7 wickets to sweep the two-match series 2-0. Their middle-order batsman Glenn Maxwell proved to be the hero of the last match as well, having scored a brilliant 113* to help Australia chase down a total of 190 runs with ease. Earlier, the Indian captain, Virat Kohli had scored 72* and with help from KL Rahul and MS Dhoni took Indian team to a par looking total.

However, the score proved to be insufficient as the Australia team handed them their first limited-overs series defeat after 12 consecutive wins at home. Now the two teams will face off in a five-match ODI series starting Saturday, March 2 and all the focus will be on MS Dhoni, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, whose form and batting position have been under a lot of scrutiny with this series being India’s final one before the commencement of 2019 World Cup in England.

Final T20I for MS Dhoni

We may have seen Dhoni play his final T20I match for the Indian team in Bengaluru. The 2007 World T20 winning captain was part of India’s first ever T20I match in 2006 against South Africa. He scored 40 off 23 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes in the second and final T20I match against Australia and added 100 runs with Kohli to help Indian team reach 190.

MS Dhoni will be part of India’s ODI team against Australia keeping India’s preparations for the 2019 World Cup and there is a belief that the 2011 edition winning former captain will bid adieu to the game after the mega ICC event in England and Wales. However, a majority of fans might want the 37-year-old to continue until the next T20 World Cup in 2020.

However, it seems that Dhoni has played his final T20I for India, as there are no more T20I fixtures in near future with the ODI series followed by IPL and then the World Cup. Dhoni will be seen leading the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2019, which starts on March 23 and will play the first match of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai.

Dhoni has played 98 T20Is for Team India, scoring 1617 runs with two fifties. Only two players have played more T20I matches – Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (111 for Pak and ICC) and Shahid Afridi (99 for Pak and ICC).
