India will play Australia in the third ODI of the ongoing series in Ranchi on Friday and it is likely to be the final game for local hero MS Dhoni in front of his home crowd. India are having a comfortable 2-0 lead in the series after the 6-wicket and 8-run victories in Hyderabad and Nagpur, respectively, and will look to wrap up yet another 50-over series. The hosts have a 2-1 win record in ODIs at the JSCA International Cricket Complex in Ranchi while a match was washed out against the same Australia in 2013.
To make the moment more memorable, Dhoni hosted the entire Indian team for a dinner party at his residence in the Jharkhand capital ahead of the third ODI on Friday. The 37-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman was seen landing at the local airport on Wednesday and leaving amid the fans who came to see a glimpse of their hero. The players were seen in cool outfits including Dhoni who was also accompanied by his wife Sakshi.

Dhoni fell for a golden duck in the Nagpur ODI after hitting four consecutive fifties against the Australians since touring Down Under in January. He came in at No.7 in the game instead of No.5 where he is batting off late. Vijay Shankar, who came to bat in that position instead, played a crucial knock of 46 off 41 balls to steady India’s ship along with centurion Virat Kohli. Dhoni has an ordinary track record in Ranchi as well as a batsman but the fans will want him to score big to carry on with the momentum ahead of the World Cup kicking off in May.
Dhoni turned down offer to inaugurate pavilion in Ranchi stadium after his name
Dhoni also made the headlines in Ranchi after politely turning down the offer to inaugurate a pavilion at the local stadium after his name, saying being a local boy, it would not look nice if he inaugurated something at home. The Jharkhand cricket authorities were bowled over by the former India captain, saying it was his ‘graciousness’.
