Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, the suspended teams, are set to make a comeback in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both the franchise might be allowed to retain players who played for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Gujarat Lions in the last two years. However, that will happen if the proposal of the IPL Governing Council is accepted by the other franchises during the workshop arranged in November.

If the move is agreed upon, then Mahendra Singh Dhoni might automatically return to Chennai much to the joy of their fan base. He played for Pune franchise in the last two seasons and performed decently. But the man himself has expressed his excitement earlier this year about playing for his old franchise and he would love to don the yellow jersey again. Similarly, the players like Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina among many others remain under the radar of the teams they played two years ago.

Minimum 3 retentions to be allowed

The Governing Council of the IPL met on Tuesday in New Delhi and discussed the aforementioned proposal. A member present in the meeting cleared that they are looking to allow minimum three retentions which include 1 Indian and 2 foreigners. “We are going to propose minimum 3 retentions – 1 Indian and 2 foreigners. The players, who played for Pune and Gujarat in last two years can be retained by Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. We will place it in front of owners during workshop next month,” he said.

According to CricketNext, when the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla was contacted, he said that total retentions including Right To Match could be anything between three to five, depending upon what majority of the franchises agree. It has also been reported that the franchises had requested the board to increase the salary purse to Rs. 75 Crore. “Most of the franchises want the salary purse to Rs 75 crore. I guess it would be done,” the official confirmed.
