MS Dhoni looking to make amends in batting technique
During the recently concluded IPL, Dhoni analysed footage of his batting on performance analyst Prasanna Agoram.
MS Dhoni, the living embodiment of power when it comes to striking the cricket ball, has in some ways lost his initial verve at the crease. In the early days of his career, Dhoni was the sort of batsman who looked to smash every delivery into next week. However, as the years have gone by, he seems to have been subdued, as he is seen taking his time out in the middle.
The runs haven’t come as easily as they did when Dhoni smashed his unbeaten 183. Questions have thus been raised over his ability to replicate those indomitable innings. It is quite visible that be it for age or slowing reflexes MSD the the best finisher this game ever had isn’t able to replicate his past performances and thus has been relieved from the duties.

However, as per Indian Express, the former skipper is making a conscious effort to alter his technique. During the recently concluded IPL, Dhoni analysed footage of his batting with performance analyst Prasanna Agoram. He then marched out to the middle of the MCA Stadium in Pune as Prasanna followed with camera and tripod in hand.
For the first half hour of Dhoni’s nets session, the camera was placed right behind the stump at the bowler’s end. Prasanna then shifted the apparatus behind the net, while the camera recorded MSD’s movements with the bat.
Strangely enough, Dhoni had a lengthy exchange of notes and comments with the expert. For a man who came into the cricketing arena with an unorthodox yet effective technique of his own, and stuck with it for almost 15 years, it was peculiar to see him making a serious effort to alter it.
MS Dhoni has been the man for all seasons in the Indian Cricket Team, finishing matches on countless occasions. However, in 2016, he got his first 50+ score in the month of October. Runs were obviously hard to come by for him and his recent stats speak for themselves. Even in the shortest format of the game, Dhoni hasn’t been his usual sparkling self.
Playing for the Rising Pune Supergiant this IPL season, Dhoni wasn’t able to score too many runs, save his match-winning knock of 61 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
But make no mistake to underestimate MS Dhoni; his recent struggle for runs takes nothing away from his inherent ability to pull India out of troubled waters, especially in the big games.
