MS Dhoni makes a surprise appearance in a TNPL match
MSD also said that Tirunelveli is a special place for him.
Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently enjoying his off-time. He was with the team on the tour of UK and returned home after the conclusion of the ODI series against England. The next international assignment ahead of him is the Asia Cup in September. Making the most of this time, Dhoni made a surprise visit to Tirunelveli’s Indian Cement Company Ground during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match and surprised the crowd.
Dhoni made the surprise visit when Madurai Panthers were taking on Kovai Kings. Furthermore, he was present in the middle during the toss of this game. The Chennai Super Kings captain has a great attachment with Chennai and the cricket fans in Tamil Nadu. He has led CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for all the 9 seasons and won his 3rd title this time.
MS Dhoni vows to improve his Tamil by next IPL
However, despite all the time that he spent in Chennai, Dhoni’s Tamil is not as polished. But, the former Indian skipper promised his fans that he will improve his Tamil vocabulary by the next edition of IPL. The 37-year-old noted that he forgets the Tamil words that he learns every year once the IPL is done. Hence, he is forced to start from the scratch again in the next edition of the league.
“What brings me here is the TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League), of course, to start off. Every time I play IPL, I learn Tamil and once the tournament ends I have to start from scratch again. I will make sure that by next edition of IPL, I’ll learn a bit of Tamil,” he said.
MS Dhoni also added that Tirunelveli is a special place for him. “Also this is a special place, this is where India Cements started. I have been with them (India Cements) for a long time so, this gives me an opportunity to come and see the first Plant over here,” he said justifying his statement.
Dhoni went on to add that the conditions for the TNPL look tough as there was a lot of wind blowing. “Along with that, every year I come down and watch a few games of the TNPL, this is the first game I will be watching this year in person. Looks like challenging conditions here with the kind of breeze blowing,” he concluded.
