MS Dhoni might be there as a mentor and not player with CSK for IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra

There have been a lot of talks around MS Dhoni’s future with the CSK franchise ahead of IPL 2022. Many feel that the yellow army will retain their legendary skipper but some also reckon that Dhoni himself won’t step up for the IPL 2022. In the same reference, former cricketer and analyst, Aakash Chopra added that CSK is synonymous with Dhoni and they are going to retain him for sure.

However, Chopra felt, in which captaincy Dhoni will be with CSK, is dependent totally on him. If he wishes to play the next season which is only six months away, there will be no one stopping him. However, as a mega auction is proposed ahead of next year, a lot of things have to be taken into consideration.

“Dhoni is going to retain CSK for sure. Now in what capacity it’s up to him. It’s never been a transactional kind of relationship between the two. MSD is equal to CSK, so if he has a season in him, which is only six months away, and if he has the desire to play as he will play,” said Aakash Chopra on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

Chopra opens up on MS Dhoni’s future ahead of the mega auction

Chopra made a point that a lot of money is spent in the mega auction and a lot of huge transactions are involved to build a team. In that case, MS might show his resentment for letting his franchise invest so much in him. In that manner, he might work up with his franchise as a mentor in years to come, mulled Gambhir. Meanwhile, Dhoni has led CSK to the record ninth finale in IPL history.

“But I’m sure he’s also mindful of the fact that next year’s big auction, a lot of money is being parked on one player for the next three seasons. If that’s going to happen then you’re going to hamper the chances of creating a good team at a big auction. So, if that plays out the way I think it is, MS might be there as a mentor and not as a player,” he added.
