MS Dhoni might have to bid farewell to his favourite PUBG if Indian government decides to ban the app

The Indian government, in June, banned as many as 59 Chinese applications including the much-popular TikTok, citing threat to national security and sovereignty. The government resorted to such a move following the border tensions between both the nations.

After the ban of 59 apps, 47 more — which were the clones of those apps — were also recently suspended by the Indian government. Furthermore, several apps are also on the radar of the government, with PUBG being one of them. The gaming app, in a short period of time, has gained massive popularity all across the country.

Many prominent faces including cricketers like MS Dhoni have been spotted playing PUBG in their idle time. However, Dhoni’s affair with the game is expected to end if the government decides to ban the app.

A total of 275 Chinese apps have reportedly come under the government’s radar and their fate is expected to be decided in the near future. PUBG is backed by China’s most valuable internet major Tencent. Considering the country’s national security and privacy, PUBG could face the axe with the rise in tension with China.

Dhoni’s love for PUBG is not a secret. Dhoni, along with many Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Yuvzendra Chahal, Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, has been spotted trying their hand at the game. Dhoni’s better half Sakshi, in a recent interview, had also revealed that Dhoni often keeps playing video games, including PUBG, to keep his mind diverted.

“He has got a thinking brain, it does not rest. When he plays video games, it helps him divert his mind, which is a good thing. Nowadays PUBG has encroached my bed. Mahi is sleep talking about PUBG these days,” Sakshi had said.

However, with the clouds of ban looming over the game, only time will tell if PUBG lovers in India can continue playing the game. Dhoni, meanwhile, has been spending his time amid the pandemic at his Ranchi farmhouse. The veteran, who celebrated his 39th birthday on July 7, has been away from the sport for almost a year now. Dhoni last donned the India jersey in the 2019 World Cup where the Men in Blue suffered a semi-final defeat against New Zealand.

Ardent Dhoni fans are eagerly waiting for his return to the sport as many questions have been raised over the veteran’s international future. The Ranchi stalwart is likely to brace the field while leading Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020, which is slated to start from September 19 in the UAE.
