The Republic of India celebrates its 68th Republic Day today on 26th January 2017. As per tradition, the Indian armed and paramilitary forces parade at the Rajpath while the President of India hoists the national flag which is followed by the national anthem, the commanding officer of the parade seeks permission from him to commence the parade for the year. While everything looked just perfect former Indian captain MS Dhoni missed something this year.
For the first time in 2017, the National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos also known as the Black Cat Commandos were a part of the Republic Day parade marching their way saluting the national flag and the president. To accommodate them the Para commandos had to give up their place and Dhoni who trained with the Parachute regiment of the elite Para Brigade of the Indian army missed watching his uniform partners.
Dhoni tweeted- “I really missed this a lot on this year’s Republic day parade but the shoes were duly filled by the NSG Commandos.”

The ceremony starts with the Prime Minister, the President and the chiefs of staffs of all the three armed forces paying tribute at the Amar Jawan Jyoti where the eternal flame burns to honour the courage of the Indian Armed Forces personnel who sacrificed their lives while serving the country.

They then move to the Rajpath where the flag is hoisted, the national anthem is sung along with a 21 gun salute. The guest of honour today was the crown prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. And so for the very first time, the UAE soldiers marched in the parade. The UAE band which consisted of 35 musicians, saluted the President and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi.
