MS Dhoni announced his international retirement on Saturday with an Instagram post. When the fans were waiting eagerly for him to return to the field in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the legend bid adieu to international cricket in his own way. While he will still play the T20 tournament, Dhoni will never be seen in the blue jersey now.

Many were hoping for him to hang his boots in the 2021 T20 World Cup which is supposed to be played in India. But no one knew what was going through his mind. Soon after his retirement, the fans and even the Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanded a farewell match for the former Indian skipper.

Moreover, the likes of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag were also trending on Twitter as even they didn’t get a farewell game before bidding goodbye to the sport they loved for their life. However, the former IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla has cleared that there is no question of organising a farewell match for MS Dhoni as the man himself never asked for it.

“Dhoni never expressed any will to BCCI for a farewell match for him. Since he never raised it, there’s no question of any such match,” he said while speaking to the media.

MS Dhoni walks away silently, yet again

MS Dhoni is not known to hog the limelight when he is away from the sport. Even when he is on the field, he prefers to stay within himself and concentrate on the game. Ever since India got knocked out of the World Cup, the veteran distanced himself from everything and seldom appeared in Instagram Live videos of his wife Sakshi while playing with his daughter Ziva.

Even in the lockdown, he preferred to stay away from everything while the experts and the fans kept speculating about his career and retirement. And yet again, he has managed to surprise everyone in a unique way. Nevertheless, MS Dhoni will be mesmerising the fans with his batting and captaincy in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) starting next month on September 19.
