This season’s IPL game between KXIP and CSK in Mohali will be remembered for two reasons – one for Gayle’s monstrous sixes in his comeback and the second is for MS Dhoni’s brutal hitting. Eventually, Chennai Super Kings lost the game by four runs, thanks to Mujeeb Zadran’s brilliant spell which turned the game towards KXIP.

In that game, skipper MS Dhoni was batting with a lower back injury. He took a painkiller during the drinks break and continued batting. At one point in time, CSK never looked in the competition, but MS Dhoni started to explode in the final three overs of Mohit Sharma and Andre Tye. He smacked sixes all over the park, which entertained both sides of the fans.

Dhoni – One of the players who has impressed me a lot

Talking about that game, Kings XI Punjab mentor Virender Sehwag picked MS Dhoni as one the few players who impressed him the most in IPL 2018. He liked the way MS Dhoni batted deep despite suffering from the pain.

“MS Dhoni is one of the players who has impressed me a lot so far in this season of the IPL. Considering his age and the fact that he had back pain, Dhoni decided to keep on batting against Kings XI Punjab. I think if there would have been any other player in place of Dhoni, he would have left the field and went back to the dressing room. But being the captain, Dhoni took the responsibility and stood there till the end,” Sehwag said on India TV “Cricket Ki Baat” show.

Sehwag further added that he was surprised to see the way Dhoni almost turned the game towards his side despite struggling to run between the wickets. He said that the opposition skipper never displayed his struggle to the bowlers and credited Dhoni for helping CSK for not losing by a big margin.

“I was surprised not with his performance but with his attitude. Had it been any other player in place of Dhoni, he would have surely left the field. Dhoni was struggling to run between the wickets but he still batted till the end. The way he was hitting those sixes, it never looked as if he had a bad back. He never showed to the opposition that he was struggling. So, you have to give credit to Dhoni because if he wasn’t there, CSK would have lost the match by 50 runs,” Sehwag concluded.
