MS Dhoni is one player who is never short of popularity. Be it at the club or international level, the icon is always followed by the fans closely. Dhoni is currently leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 and will play the first game of the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at home on Saturday. RCB are led by his Team India colleague Virat Kohli.
Dhoni’s successful stint with the CSK has made him very popular with the local cricket fans in Chennai which has become his second home. The wicket-keeper-batsman has led the yellow jerseys in all the editions they have played in the IPL since inception (excepting 2016 and 2017 when they were suspended), leading them to title win in 2010, 2011 and 2018 while finishing as the runners-up in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Dhoni crossed the boundary and distributed autographs
That the popularity of the defending champions’ captain remained the same was visible at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai where Dhoni was practising on the eve of the match. The 37-year-old saw kids in the gallery watching him sweating and he showed the courtesy to cross the boundary and oblige the children with autographs. The fans cheered Dhoni harder at this gesture. The children were seen in boundless joy when their hero approached them to give autographs.

The video of Dhoni’s gesture was posted on Twitter by the CSK and they captioned it: “The #Yellove on the faces of all the kids out there defines #Thala and the #AnbuDen! #WhistlePodu”
CSK returned to the IPL last year after remaining suspended for the 2016 and 2017 seasons in connection to a fixing scandal. However, they did not waste time and straightaway lifted their third title, matching the Mumbai Indians. Dhoni himself was also in great form last season and one would expect him to deliver again in what could be his last IPL as a current player.
