Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are the two heavyweight teams of Indian Premier League that share a fair amount of rivalry on the cricket field. It’s been a never-ending debate between the critics on which side is better based on their performances in the league. Now, Scott Styris, the former New Zealand cricketer has given his verdict over the same.
CSK is the only side that has managed to qualify into the playoffs in all 12 seasons of the cash-rich league. But, when it comes to the number of titles, Mumbai Indians is ahead of Chennai Super Kings as they have four IPL trophies in their showcase. These two teams have come face to face in 30 games in which MI have ended up winning 18 matches whereas CSK have won on 12 occasions.
Both the teams have a massive fan following across the globe due to their star-studded line-up. On one side, players like Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and MS Dhoni currently play for CSK whereas MI have Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya in their arsenal.
Scott Styris gives his verdict between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings
In a show, Scott Styris, the former Kiwi cricketer said that he rates team based on four points. Firstly, consistency and CSK have qualified for the playoffs in all seasons of IPL due to the same. Secondly the expectations and producing some young talents for the national team.
In that scenario also, CSK has produced most uncapped players for Team India. Moreover, they have reaped out lots of success on the back of those young players that found and nourished. Thirdly, they have continued on their desire to keep coming with astonishing talent in every season.
“I’ve got four points. It’s about consistency, CSK have never missed the final series, have won the most knockout matches, it’s the expectation and reliance on these IPL teams to produce Indian players and CSK have produced the most uncapped players for India and it’s a real desire that they have to continue to develop players in that regard,” said Styris speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.
Fourth, in the IPL, the game is all about the best finisher against the best death bowler. And, if we rate the battle between MS Dhoni and Lasith Malinga. The former Indian skipper always has an upper edge against the Sri Lanka pcer. “It’s about the best finisher in the game against the best finisher bowler. Dhoni vs Malinga and Dhoni owns Malinga.” the former Kiwi player added.
