Indian limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni started his domestic sojourn for Bihar and eventually played for Jharkhand, but once he made his international debut he had such busy schedules that never quite managed time to return to his home side to assist them in domestic campaigns. Having played 92 Tests, he called it a day from the longest format in the last part of 2014. Following which he played the Vijay Hazare Trophy last year for Jharkhand.
The Indian team now plays a majority of Test matches this season and with only a few limited-overs assignments at hand and Champions Trophy approaching early next year Dhoni has stated that he will play the upcoming Vijay Hazare tournament for his state team. He talked about his intentions in the post-match press meet at Mohali after Team India beat New Zealand by 7 wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
When he was asked about his decision to bat higher up the order at number 4 rather than his usually preferred position at number 6 or 7, Dhoni said, “You can go out and play the big shots, start with a positive intent. With more and more games I will keep getting better. That is what is important for me,”
As per the predetermined schedule, he has another 7 or 8 international matches at hand and to keep himself prepared to deliver whenever he takes field for the national team he will play as many matches as possible. “…To see the number of games available for me. This is a five-match series (against New Zealand), followed by 3 against England and 2 T20Is or 3. So that is not a lot of limited overs cricket. I will go and play the Ranji Trophy one-dayers (Vijay Hazare Trophy for Jharkhand). Overall there is not a lot of cricket and I have to make the most of it. The more deliveries I play the better it is for me.” MS Dhoni added.
