MS Dhoni produces yet another stunning stumping in Kolkata
Dhoni completed a fine stumping just when Maxwell threatened to take the game away from the Indians.
Former India skipper MS Dhoni was at the cynosure of a critical dismissal yet again in the ongoing ODI against Australia at the Eden Gardens. India batting wasn’t at its best in trying conditions in Kolkata but they managed to rally and take the team towards a score of respectability on the back of a solid 92 by the skipper Virat Kohli.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar rocked the Australian top order in a crafty spell with the new ball dismissing both the openers for a single digit score. It was down to the skipper, Steve Smith and Travis Head to rebuild the innings. Both batted sensibly to stitch a 76-run partnership for the third wicket before the wrist spinners took center stage at the Eden Gardens.
Chahal vs Maxwell 2.0
Chahal was lucky to get Head’s wicket off a full-toss and then tested Glenn Maxwell’s skill and temperament. The 27-year old was bowling beautifully, mixing his length and varying his trajectory to trouble Maxwell, who had hit two sixes off his first four balls faced to chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav.
In the 23rd over, Maxwell looked uneasy and was desperate to hit a big hit to keep the momentum going. He bowled four dot balls to Maxwell which probably didn’t go down well with the big-hitter. On the fifth ball, Maxwell decided to come down the wicket which Chahal had already anticipated as he shortened his length. The ball went through the legs of Maxwell, just brushing his pad and Dhoni was quick enough to whip the bails off.

Dhoni’s magic
The difficult bit about the stumping was that Dhoni couldn’t sight the ball because Maxwell stepped down towards the pitch of the ball and because the ball brushed the pad of Maxwell, the ball ballooned and Dhoni had to reach out to the ball and take the stumps off. It was another special work by the Indian stumper behind the stumps, giving Chahal his second wicket of the night.
