The Men in Blue were in a light mood after qualifying for the final of the Asia Cup 2018 with a game to spare and although they scrambled to a tie their final inconsequential Super Fours game against Afghanistan, the fans were equally excited. On Wednesday, die-hard Pakistani cricket fan Bashir Chacha met captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper MS Dhoni and the duo obliged him with selfies at their team hotel.
Bashir has been staying in the same hotel where Team India is put up and requested for a picture with Dhoni of whom he is a big fan. The latter who has known him for a while met the man and they clicked a picture. Rohit also clicked a photo with him along with his wife Ritika Sajdeh. The skipper had also met four super fans of the major Asian teams and spent some time with them.
Bashir Chacha sponsored Sudhir Gautam for Asia Cup
Bashir reportedly sponsored Sudhir Gautam, the Indian superfan, during his visit to the United Arab Emirates for this Asia Cup. They, along with Gayan Senanayaka and Mohammad Nilam – two superfans from Sri Lanka – had shared times with Rohit at a restaurant.
“It’s pure love. You know the money will come and go with Allah’s grace. I told Sudhir you just come here and I will take care of everything. I am not a rich person but my heart is as big as an ocean. If I help you, Allah will be happy,” Bashir was quoted as saying.
Pakistan, however, lost against Bangladesh in their last Super Fours match by 37 runs to crash out of the tournament. It was yet another batting debacle by the Men in Green and Sarfraz Ahmed’s team will come under a lot of scrutiny following their disappointing performance in the tournament.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, came back well after getting thrashed by Afghanistan and India. They won two consecutive games to qualify for their third Asia Cup final and the first one outside Bangladesh. On both occasions, they lost to Pakistan by 2 runs (2012) and to India by 8 wickets (2016).
