A day after India humiliated Pakistan at Birmingham, the blue brigade attended a gala dinner, hosted by skipper Virat Kohli’s foundation. It was a fundraiser event and was attended by in the entire Indian team along with the coaching staff. Throughout the event, famous presenter Alan Wilkins was quizzing the Indian players. Among the many questions, the one MS Dhoni answered was rather interesting.

Wilkins went on to ask Dhoni a couple of things, starting with his views the Duckworth-Lewis method. The India vs Pakistan game was interrupted by rains time and again, it was finally played using the Duckworth-Lewis method. Perhaps this is why Dhoni, who led India to the Champions Trophy title in 2013 at the same venue, was asked this question.

The former Indian skipper came up with an interesting reply, as he mentioned that even the ICC is not totally aware of the rule and how it works. “I don’t think even ICC understands the D/L method and how it works,” said Dhoni talking about the rule for calculation of scores in rain affected matches.

The next question that Dhoni was asked got an even better reply. Wilkins asked him to name the quickest bowler he has faced, the answer to which was Shoaib Akhtar.

“If I have to name one quick bowler who was tough to play against in my career, simple and easy answer would be Shoaib Akhtar,” the most successful Indian captain and wicketkeeper-batsman said.

Dhoni played Akhtar well

Here it can be noted that Dhoni and the ‘Rawalpindi Express’ were involved in a fierce battle during MSD’s first ever Test series in Faisalabad in 2006. In his knock of 148 which saved the Test for India, Dhoni played Akhtar very well.

Team India will now take on Sri Lanka in their next game at the Oval on the 8th of June. A win will secure them a semi-final berth.
