MS Dhoni shows the silver lining following India's dismal show in South Africa
"Once you start scoring runs, you will be there,” the former Indian captain noted.
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has backed the underfire Indian team with his recent remarks. Team India saw their unbeaten 9-series winning streak come to a screeching halt with the defeat in the Centurion Test against the Proteas. The cricket fraternity has come out hard on the team, and their captain Virat Kohli following the defeat.
While everyone is busy pointing out the flaws in the Indian side, the former captain, MS Dhoni showed his calmness yet again on the issue. He is renowned to be one of the most balanced heads in world cricket. As per the recent reports in Sportstarlive, Dhoni spoke in favor of the Indian team during a promotional event of the Chennai Super Kings.
He remarked that the key to success in Test cricket is to take 20 wickets. And the Indian team has done that. The only way one can save the match by not picking up 20 wickets is by ensuring a draw. He urged the fans to be patient and have faith in the side. Dhoni will be joining the Indian team soon for the limited overs fixtures in South Africa.
“To win a Test match, you need to take 20 wickets, we have taken 20 wickets. If you can’t take 20 wickets, the next option is to draw a Test match. How you can draw a Test match is by giving less runs and by scoring runs. Third option is there is no option because you are always looking for a win,” MS Dhoni quoted.
Looking at the positives
Speaking further on the same note, MS Dhoni reiterated that there is no way a team can win by not picking up 20 wickets. And since the Indian team has successfully taken 20 wickets in each of the first two Tests, the positives are certainly there to be taken. They have ticked one box correctly and now need to only work on their batting to get over the line successfully next time around.
“If you cannot take 20 wickets, you cannot win a Test irrespective of where you play — at home or outside. That’s a biggest positive, that we are taking 20 wickets. When we can take 20 wickets, this means we are always in a position to win Test match. Once you start scoring runs, you will be there,” the former Indian captain noted.
