MS Dhoni is renowned for his grit, determination and his go-getter attitude. At the age of 36, he isn’t a spring chicken anymore, but the zeal to succeed hasn’t died down by any stretch of the imagination. The former skipper nearly helped the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Despite playing with a broken back, he kept finding the boundaries with sheer ease which infused life into the game, much to the delight of the CSK fans. He scored 79 runs off 44 balls, which included six boundaries and five humungous whacks over the ropes. Meanwhile, one of his sixes came off one hand, which effortlessly cleared the boundaries.

The unreal blow by MS Dhoni

The shot panned out in the penultimate ball of the 19th over by Andrew Tye. Despite some lusty blows by Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni, CSK required a daunting 23 runs from seven balls. Tye attempted to bowl a slower delivery which went horribly wrong and turned into a full toss. Dhoni’s bottom hand came off the handle, however, he still made a decent connection.

To the surprise of one and all at the venue, the ball sailed over the square leg boundary, which ensured that Chennai required 17 runs to clinch the contest in the final over. Prior to that, the CSK captain injured his back and was given medical attention.  However, didn’t give up and kept the big shots going.

Chennai required 67 runs off the last 24 balls, which seemed like a mountain to climb. However, Dhoni wasn’t ready to drop the gun and kept pegging away at the target. CSK required 11 off the final delivery and MSD finished the game in his trademark style with a monstrous blow over the long on region.
