MS Dhoni still remains the No. 1 wicket-keeper in the world: MSK Prasad
The 36-year-old, although admittedly is in the fag end of his career, he still looks on top of his game.
Ever since MS Dhoni relinquished his captaincy, debate arose over his retirement. However, the former Indian skipper has managed to silence all his critics with his consistency and tenacity. And his recent performance in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka serves as a testament to what champion material Dhoni is made of.
With the 2019 World Cup just a year to go, the team formulations and prospective options are already being earmarked by the national selectors. And the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad made it clear in a recent statement that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to continue till the 2019 World Cup as some of the younger keepers, who have been tried, are not anywhere close to the former Indian captain’s level. Prasad’s statement more or less sealed the fate of all young keepers till the 2019 World Cup.
Lauding the wicketkeeper-batsman, Prasad said according to quotes on TOI, “I think MS Dhoni still remains the No 1 wicket-keeper in the world and day in and day out we have been saying this. In the current T20 series (against Sri Lanka), the stumpings he has affected and caught-behind he has taken are phenomenal.”
He added, “There is no comparison and I don’t see any wicket-keeper, who can even come close to him in world cricket, leave alone Indian Cricket.”
Despite his age, Dhoni has been in sublime form
The 36-year-old, although admittedly is in the fag end of his career, he still looks on top of his game. In the last few months alone, the former skipper has played some crucial knocks to rescue the team from tough situations and help them across the line.
More than his batting, Dhoni’s unmatched skills behind the stumps is what’s making the selectors stick with him. The hand speed behind the wicket, the reflexes and his ability to read the game means he’s become an invaluable asset in the side. Prasad, who reflected in these skills, went on to say Dhoni is the best wicket-keeper in the world at the moment.
