The camaraderie between India’s Ex-captain MS Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli share is a well-renowned phenomenon by now. The two have played together for a while now and have witnessed all the highs and lows in tandem. It was in Dambulla nine years ago when a young Kohli was given a break in the one-day side following the U-19 World Cup triumph.
MS Dhoni has had a reputation for giving young promising talents opportunity at the highest level. Even though his records spoke volumes of his ability at the junior level, it required a lot of guts to give a teenager the opening slot to bat against Sri Lanka in an international match at their own backyard. Kohli was always destined to do great things but the break provided Dhoni in 2008 will be one of the greatest moves of him in years to come.
Cut to 2017, as they say, life came back to a full circle nine years hence and tables have turned. Dhoni stepped back himself and Virat now is leading the Indian side in all formats of the game. Ahead of the First ODI at Dambulla, where it all began for the greatest Chasemaster of all time, in one of the power net sessions, Virat Kohli smacked three consecutive sixes of three balls.
The second hit resembled the follow through of the iconic Helicopter Shot by MS Dhoni. He then gave way to his predecessor to take guard and smack a few himself. In the process, swirled his bat like a cowboy with lasso in a rodeo show while welcoming MS Dhoni. Also, in the first delivery, he also imitated the idiosyncrasies of the other member of Fab 4 of World Cricket, Steve Smith. He concluded his session after gathering few tips from coach Ravi Shastri.
