MS Dhoni, over the years, has carved a reputation as one of the best finishers, especially in limited-overs cricket. And his incredible numbers are a testament to his stupendous ability, both as the captain and a batsman. He is 37 years old and he isn’t a spring chicken anymore, but his zeal to succeed at the highest level on a consistent basis has kept the veteran going.
Yesterday, the Jharkhand-born cricketer played against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The experienced campaigner played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and churned out a significant knock of 84 unbeaten runs from 48 deliveries with the help of five boundaries and seven over-boundaries.
He came to bat after the RCB bowlers, especially Dale Steyn, reduced the CSK to 28 for four in 5.5 overs. First, he set a partnership of 55 runs with Ambati Rayudu to inject momentum into the innings. In the meantime, the required rate kept escalating at an alarming rate. However, Dhoni didn’t press the panic button and took the encounter as deep as possible.

In the last over, CSK needed 26 runs and Umesh Yadav was the bowler. Dhoni took the attack to the bowler and reduced the target to a couple off the final delivery of the game. Nevertheless, the cool-headed customer missed the last ball and Parthiv Patel ran Shardul Thakur at the striker’s end. Subsequently, the visiting team lost the game by a mere one run.
In the meantime, Vinod Kambli, the former Indian cricketer, was awestruck by the knock. Moreover, he also went on to say that Dhoni would create the difference for the Indian team in the most-awaited World Cup in England and Wales, scheduled to get underway on May 30.
He took to Twitter and wrote “What a great finisher MSD is! Took the match till the very end when @chennaiipl was almost down and out. But when @msdhoni is at the crease anything is possible. He will be the difference for India at the @cricketworldcup,”
