Former India skipper MS Dhoni is heralded all across the globe for being an incredible force and the ability to hold his nerves during tense situations. The 29-year-old has time and again proved why he is a champion material, and his performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season only serves as a testament to that.
Dhoni has always succeeded in the art of silencing his critics with performance. One of the world’s greatest ever limited-overs batsmen, MS Dhoni was lately criticised for his approach in the shortest format. However, Chennai Super Kings’ skipper decided to bat up the order and show the bowlers he can still boss them.
And this time he did it in style. The sleeping giant finally woke up in the T20 format this summer and has left behind a trail of destruction amassing 413 runs, a strike-rate of 162.59 and has struck 29 sixes. His CSK teammate Suresh Raina agrees promptly and said his skipper is now enjoying the game, more than ever.
In an exclusive interview with Indiatoday.in, Raina was quoted as saying, “MS is enjoying his batting. You know he has played down the order for so many years. He has still finished so many games so well. He is having a good time and that has always been his USP.”
The left-hander opined, “I think the next two or three years are an extreme prime time for Dhoni.”
Dhoni’s goal is to win the IPL this year
While many had started writing a retirement script for Dhoni, Raina said the next two to three years will be Dhoni’s best. T20 cricket, though is fast-paced, more suited to the younger generation, Dhoni, however, has defied age and is currently fourth in the list of leading six hitters this season.
Raina, who knows the captain better than most in the Indian cricket fraternity, said Dhoni is currently focused on the task in hand i.e. the playoffs and that his goal is to win the IPL this year after CSK spent two seasons away due to suspension.
