Indian wicket-keeper and middle order batsman MS Dhoni has a reputation of finishing games in his own typical style. The 2011 world cup final against Sri Lanka, the one against Australia in Australia and many more. But on Sunday, Dhoni let the Indian skipper Virat Kohli finish the game and end one of the most dominating tours in Indian cricket history.

With two runs to get, Dhoni pushed for a single and allowed Kohli to take the strike and finish off the game, with more than 3 overs remaining. Kohli. batting on 109, tapped the ball for a single, as India registered a six-wicket win and along with that clinched the series 5-0. The skipper brought up his 30th hundred in ODIs and scored his second consecutive one, while Dhoni remained unbeaten for the fourth successive time in this series.

India makes it 5-0

Sri Lanka batting first, made 238. Lahiru Thirimanne top scored for the hosts with a patient 67, while Angelo Mathews scored 55. Skipper Upul Tharanga made sure Sri Lanka gets to a decent start by making a 34-ball 48. The hosts once again failed to bat the fifty overs and were bundled out with 21 balls to spare.

India, chasing 239, lost two wickets in the first 10 overs but a gritty hundred by the skipper and a well paced 73-ball 63 by Kedar Jadhav ensured no further hiccups. Post the game, skipper Kohli said “It’s quite amazing to have won the series 5-0. We always thought the shorter format is going to be much more challenging. The youngsters and the spunk on the field has worked for us. All round, it’s been a complete series for us. We’ve been playing some good cricket. We didn’t win three games in the shorter format before this, and now we have six in a row including the West Indies series.” Check out the video where Dhoni can be seen taking a well planned single and letting Kohli finish the game in a fitting manner.
