MS Dhoni, on Sunday, played one of the finest knocks ever seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but it ultimately went in vain. The Chennai Super Kings skipper nearly took his team over the line in a thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore but agonizingly fell short by just one run. Dhoni had missed Super Kings’ last game with a back spasm but it didn’t make much difference to his batting.
The game looked dead and buried when the Royal Challengers had reduced the Super Kings to 28 for 4 with MS Dhoni just new to the crease. He then shared 55 runs partnership with Ambati Rayudu to steady the ship before the latter departed. The Super Kings soon found themselves 6 down for just 108 while chasing 161. However, Dhoni held firm from one end and went on to complete another fifty in the yellow jersey to keep the Super Kings in the hunt.
But the game once again looked out of Super Kings’ reach when they needed an improbable 26 runs from the final over. However, Dhoni, one of the greatest finishers the game has ever witnessed, went berserk and smashed 24 runs off the first five balls. But unfortunately, he missed the final delivery, and Parthiv Patel effected a run out to give the home team a thrilling one-run win. Dhoni ended with 84 off 48 balls including 5 fours and seven sixes.
Despite the loss, the Super Kings skipper has been garnering praise from all over and Shibani Dandekar, the former IPL anchor, also joined the bandwagon. Shibani took to Twitter to hail MS Dhoni, writing, “MS Dhoni you are a dream to watch! You really know how to put on a show What a game!!! #IPL2019

Dhoni criticises batsmen
Following the game, the Super Kings skipper was critical about the approach of his batsmen earlier in the innings in a chase of a total which he considered below par.
“That’s why I think the top three can be finishers, they may do it a few times, but when you bat at 5, 6 or 7 whatever you are calculating you have to put a lot of thinking behind it because you lose one more wicket and the game is over at that point of time,” said Dhoni after the game.
