The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League has marked the comeback of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. He appeared on the cricket field last during the semi-finals of World Cup 2019 against New Zealand.
In the month of August this year, he stunned fans by drawing curtains on his international cricket career. His presence in the IPL has become even significant when fans can only see him playing in this format of the game.
People have been waiting desperately for their dear captain to hit bowlers and win games for CSK like every time, but things have not been going likewise. In fact, in the last three games of CSK, he demoted himself in the batting order and didn’t show when the team needed it the most.
His batting position has fumed a lot of questions in the cricket fraternity. In the same light, former Australian speedster Brett Lee opined that Dhoni’s batting position if affecting the team, and it must be sorted if they want to have a good season.
“They have to start winning, they’ve got the right team but don’t think they’ve got the right position (for the players). I think the talk on Dhoni’s batting position is putting a lot of pressure on the entire team. He has to fix his batting position,” said Brett Lee as quoted by Hindustan Times.
CSK not at their usual best so far
Talking about CSK’s journey in this season, people expected a great voyage as Dhoni was also marking his comeback in competitive cricket. CSK started on a great note by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians in the season opener. However, they have been falling weak after it.
In their game against Rajasthan Royals, they couldn’t chase the score as the middle-order collapsed terribly and Dhoni stepped up on the field when the game was almost over.
In their next match against Delhi Capitals, they lost by a big margin of 44 runs when none of the batsmen could put up a great show apart from Faf du Plessis. They have their next game coming up against Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which they need to strive hard in order to return on the track.
