MSK Prasad reveals KL Rahul's batting position in ODIs against Sri Lanka
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are going to open the innings for India.
The Test series is done and dusted now after Monday when India registered a third comprehensive victory by a margin of an innings and 171 runs. It has been a ruthless performance from Virat Kohli and his boys. But they can’t rest on their laurels and indulge in complacency as the ODI series is nearing. Chief selector MSK Prasad and his team have released the team list on Sunday.
The man of the series of Test series, Shikhar Dhawan, who was unexpectedly chosen for the Test series following injuries and other issues and incidentally turned out to be the pillar of Indian batting lineup, has been retained for the ODI series. Shikhar’s partner in crime, the actual limited overs opener for India, Rohit Sharma has been introduced in the squad.
This signifies that the Indian batting lineup will revert to its ‘by default’ opening combination of Sharma and Dhawan. The number 3 spot, without any tinge of second thoughts, is reserved for the skipper Virat Kohli. So that means if Rahul is selected for the playing XI, which apparently he will be, he will slot in at the number 4 position. Chief selector MSK Prasad said as per the quotes on Sportskeeda”He [Rahul] is too good to be left out of playing XI at the moment. [Shikhar] Dhawan-Rohit [Sharma] are in good form at the moment.”
Virat Kohli is backing Rahul
Not many cricketers currently have the flair and composure that KL Rahul possesses. However, the 25-year old batter had to deal with many injuries in his career. The batsman who announced his arrival in ODIs with a century had played his last ODI match way back in January against England. Skipper Kohli has said that he needs to back Rahul because the sound technician will be able to do justice to his potential only if the team management backs him.
