MSK Prasad surprised with Murali Vijay talking about 'Lack of Communication'
"With regard to the non-communication with Murali Vijay after dropping him, I am equally surprised why he has said this," he said.
The Chairman of the selection panel, MSK Prasad is currently on a clarification spree after the surprise calls in India’s squad for the series against the Windies. Regular members in the team like Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were axed. Further, after being benched for six games, Karun Nair was dropped from the squad. This has led to many questions in the last few days.
Nair went on to allege that neither the captain or the coach nor the selectors communicated with him after he was dropped. Now, opener Murali Vijay has also made a similar statement about the ‘lack of communication’. The five-member selection committee has been under fire of late. Prasad clarified regarding the whole of this issue.
Prasad claims the reports to be baseless
MSK Prasad seemed to be surprised with Vijay’s statement. He noted that his colleague, Devang Gandhi spoke to the 34-year-old. Further, he told that the cricketer was briefed about the reasons as to why he was dropped. “All these are baseless reports,” Prasad was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“With regard to the non-communication with Murali Vijay after dropping him, I am equally surprised why he has said this while my colleague and selector on call Devang Gandhi had clearly informed him about the reasons why he was dropped,” Prasad said. Murali Vijay’s failure in England is probably the primary reason behind his sacking.
Also, to prevent any further controversy, the chairman also clarified why Dhawan was dropped. “Shikhar is a prolific run-getter in white ball cricket which unfortunately he couldn’t replicate in red ball cricket. We have given him considerable opportunities before taking the decision on him in the longer format and give opportunity to the youngsters like Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal who were prolific run-getters in domestic cricket and India A,” said Prasad.
Vijay portraying the wrong picture claims a BCCI official
A senior BCCI official claimed that Vijay wasn’t giving the right information to the fans. He said that MSK Prasad was being made the scapegoat with players giving improper information.
“It is very convenient that MSK has been made the whipping boy with some of these players not giving the correct picture. How did Vijay land a contract with Essex? Would he care to tell us? The arrangement was done by BCCI after speaking to national selectors,” a senior BCCI official said.
“Within a week of getting dropped, he was playing County cricket for Essex. He, in fact, missed the early part of Vijay Hazare Trophy as he was playing County cricket. So didn’t Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) know that he was playing county cricket. Vijay would do well not to speak about communication,” the official added.
