Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has four wins in 12 league matches and are out of the contention for the playoffs of the IPL 2022. One of the few positives for the team has been the pace bowling unit, which has done well in a consistent manner. In the ongoing fixture, CSK is facing table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium. Ahead of this league match, former Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Wasim Jaffer opened up on the performances of the lead pacers of CSK.
Dasgupta said that CSK are already known to be producing talented cricketers in the past and have provided enough opportunities to the young pacers to prove their talent. He said that there is a lot of improvement in Simarjeet Singh’s performance as compared to his earlier performances. The former wicketkeeper further added that Simarjeet and Mukesh Choudhary are likely to be the key pacers of CSK in next few years and have a strong chance to play for India as well.
“CSK has provided them enough opportunities, and they are known to make players and mentor them. Along with [Deepak] Chahar, MS Dhoni has certainly seen something in Mukesh Choudhary. In terms of mentoring, you can easily see the improvement in Simarjeet’s performance, in terms of confidence and body language. I think the likes of Mukesh and Simarjeet will be the frontline pacers for CSK and will have a very good chance to represent the country as well,” said Dasgupta on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Mukesh Choudhary has tried his best to fill for Deepak Chahar: Nikhil Chopra
Ahead of CSK’s ongoing fixture against GT, Choudhary had the most wickets (11) in the powerplay overs this season. On being asked about his performance, Chopra said that it will be a lethal combination of pace-bowling when Deepak Chahar will bowl in tandem with the left-arm young pacer.
“It will certainly be better for Chennai from the next year when Chahar will be back for them. In this season, Mukesh has tried well to fill the boot of Chahar and has been able to pick wickets in the powerplay overs. Certainly, Choudhary must be happy to be one the top of this list (most wickets in powerplay overs in IPL 2022), but must keep his feet grounded,” said Chopra.
