Mumbai Cricket Association donates 1 crore for Maharashtra drought relief: The Paytm Freedom Series concluded yesterday in Mumbai. South Africa clinched the series in a thrilling display of superlative batting performance in the final match.

During the match, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) did an appreciable act of charity for its home state. The MCA handed over hearty sum Rs.1 crore to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for drought relief fund.

Mumbai batsmen Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane handed over the cheque to Fadnavis on behalf of the MCA at the Wankhede Stadium here in the presence of MCA president Sharad Pawar during the innings break after South Africa posted a massive 438/4 in 50 overs against India in the fifth and final ODI.

This is the second successive year of drought in Maharashtra. MCA vice-president Ashish Shelar on October 18 declared that the association will donate the amount in the last match of the ODI series.

Previously, CM Devendra Fadnavis had said that there is no substantial fund for drought relief.

“The Maharashtra government has already announced drought. Therefore, today (October 18) the MCA in a meeting has decided to give Rs.1 crore as relief fund to tackle the drought,” Shelar told reporters.
