The Managing Committee announced on Friday that the elections for the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will be contested on November 10. All the suitable candidates will be chosen for the various office-bearers posts of MCA, under the guidelines defined by the Supreme Court‘s Lodha Panel. The Lodha Panel appointed by the Supreme Court has introduced some major reforms, which the state cricket associations are bound to initiate in their structures and management.
MCA had to go against its previous traditions of conducting the elections every two years, due to the issues and difficulties in workings after the introduction of the Lodha recommendations. The state association had last contested its elections in 2015, in which former Union Minister and NCP boss Sharad Pawar was elected as the president of the association.
However, after the introduction of the new reforms by the Lodha Panel, including the age norm which stated that persons above the age of 70 years could not hold any official positions in the association, had forced Sharad Pawar to resign from his post and then he was replaced by the state BJP chief Ashish Shelar.
“We hold our elections every two years, but this time we had to extend the term of the office bearers keeping in mind the issues that are still being sorted out regarding the Justice Lodha recommendations,” said Dr PV Shetty, Joint Secretary of the MCA, as quoted by TOI.
Mumbai Premier League
After the success of T20 leagues in India such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and the Karnataka Premier League (KPL), the Mumbai Premier League (MPL) which has been in talks for more than two years now, seems to be the latest entry into the club of entertainment.
“We could not hold the MPL in the past because we were struggling to find the necessary dates. But, this time, we have managed to find the window, so we are planning to hold it,” added Shetty.
