If Rafael Nadal is the king of clay and Real Madrid are the giants of European football, then it is safe to say that Mumbai Indians are the masters of IPL. Mumbai Indians had a rough start in the IPL as they failed to reach the playoffs in the first two seasons of the IPL but since 2013, they have gone on to win 4 titles.

Along with their 4 IPL crowns, they have also won 2 CLT20s. Although they have played a few home matches at DY Patil stadium and Brabourne stadium in the early editions of the IPL, they now play their home matches at the Wankhede stadium.

MI have won all their IPL titles in odd years: 2013, 2015, 2017 and most recently in 2019. The franchise has a plethora of options when it has come to batting, but their all-time highest run-scorer is Rohit Sharma. Talking about the bowling department, Lasith Malinga is not only their leading wicket-taker but also the leading wicket-taker in IPL history.

Sachin Tendulkar was their original captain in the first campaign. They kept experimenting with other captaincy options such as Harbhajan Singh, Shaun Pollock and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/michael-hussey-differentiates-the-captaincy-styles-of-rohit-sharma-ricky-ponting-ms-dhoni-and-michael-clarke/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ricky Ponting</a> but when they finally made Rohit Sharma their captain in the middle of the 2013 season, Mumbai Indians&#8217; fortunes completely changed. Not only did they win that edition of the IPL, but they have by far been the most dominant side since &#8216;Hitman&#8217; took over as captain.

Due to the fact that they have been so successful, the general feeling would be that there are a lot of players in contention to be in their All-Time XI but that is not the case because they have shown great faith in a certain group of players and those players have always delivered for them. MI are also known to have an excellent scouting network as they have produced world-class talents such as Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

Let&#8217;s take a look at their All-Time XI:

It is almost impossible to talk about Mumbai Indians without mentioning the little master. Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest batsman to grace the cricket field, period. He was a part of senior players in the Indian cricket team who were not expected to perform well in the shorter form of the game but he proved the doubters wrong in great style.

Sachin was made the icon player and the captain of his home side, the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural edition of the competition. Sachin became the first Indian to win the orange cap in 2010 when he amassed a total of 618 runs in 14 innings at a solid average of 47.53 as Mumbai Indians reached the finals of the IPL.

Sachin has scored more than 500 runs in IPL in two different seasons as a captain. In 2010, his 618 runs were then the record for the most number of runs scored in a single edition, which was previously held by Aussie southpaw <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/fractured-forearm-rules-shaun-marsh-out-of-2019-world-cup-replacement-named/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Shaun Marsh</a>.

In 2011, Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden century for Mumbai Indians as he scored 100* out of 66 balls against Kochi Tuskers Kerela. &#8220;God&#8221;, as he is often called, has the perfect end to his IPL career when Mumbai Indians won their first IPL trophy in 2013 after which Sachin announced that he will be retiring from the IPL. He is the only Mumbai Indians player to win the Most Valuable Player in an IPL season, having won it in 2010.

Partnering Sachin Tendulkar at the top of the order is Trinidadian batsman Lendl Simmons. He was signed in April 2014 mid-way through the campaign as a replacement for Jalaj Saxena. He went onto score 394 runs in just 8 games for Mumbai Indians in that season at an astonishing average of 56.28.

Prior to his signing, Mumbai Indians had lost 4 games on the trot but he managed to improve the team&#8217;s fortunes to some extent as they managed to make a late entry into the playoffs by beating Rajasthan Royals in what became one of the most iconic IPL games of all time. Although he didn&#8217;t have a great outing against Rajasthan Royals in that match, his record throughout the season speaks for itself.

Mumbai Indians tried replacing Simmons by acquiring the services of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/expectations-were-high-after-taking-over-from-ms-dhoni-aaron-finch-lauds-virat-kohlis-captaincy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Aaron Finch</a> prior to the 2015 season but he got injured and once again Lendl Simmons got a chance to prove himself. The Windies batsman scored a total of 540 runs in 13 matches in the 2015 edition of the IPL. His contributions at the top of order along with Parthiv Patel were invaluable to the team and they went onto win the title that year. He had a quiet 2016 campaign as he was replaced by Jos Buttler.

Rohit Sharma has inarguably been the most important part of Mumbai Indians&#8217; success over the last seven campaigns. He started off his IPL career at Deccan Chargers but it wasn&#8217;t long before he would start playing for his local side Mumbai Indians.

He won the &#8220;Best Under-23 player&#8221; award in 2009 whilst he was still playing for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/bcci-asked-to-pay-inr-4800-crore-to-deccan-chargers-heres-what-actually-happened/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Deccan Chargers</a>. He joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 and scored his only IPL century in the 2012 tournament with 109* against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was made captain of the team midway of the 2013 season and the rest is history. Mumbai Indians have enjoyed immense success under his leadership as they have gone onto win 4 IPL titles in 7 years.

Apart from being one of the best captains in the IPL, Hitman has also been one of the best batsmen in IPL history. He has scored a total of 4898 runs and is only behind fellow Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. He was their leading run-scorer in 2012, 2013 and 2016 campaigns and has consistently been among the highest run-scorers in the Mumbai franchise.

Ambati Rayudu played for Mumbai Indians for 8 seasons from 2010 to 2017. While the limelight was on players like Rohit Sharma, Harbajan Singh and Lasith Malinga, Rayudu quietly became a cult hero. Having played for Hyderabad Heroes in the ICL, he was a natural T20 player. He was a huge prospect for the Indian team during his youth but he took a lot of time to break into the national side.

Meanwhile, he kept doing the right things in the IPL. He had the rare ability of being calm in complex situations but also be able to go all out when needed. His calm nature complimented the more dangerous batsmen in the side such as <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/dwayne-bravo-reveals-how-he-convinced-mumbai-indians-to-buy-kieron-pollard-ahead-of-ipl-2010/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kieron Pollard </a>and Hardik Pandya.

He wasn&#8217;t the sort of batsman who would make the front pages of a newspaper for breaking records, but he would consistently score 250-400 runs each and every season for Mumbai Indians. His most prolific season for Mumbai Indians came back in 2011 where he scored 395 runs which included 4 half-centuries which is truly commendable for an uncapped player who played in the middle order. He won 3 IPL titles and was a part of the team which won both the CLT20 titles.

Kieron Pollard has been with Mumbai Indians for a decade now. His performances in the 2009 CLT20 and the Big Bash made him one of the most sought after players in the 2010 auction. After some aggressive bidding by the Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-the-first-ever-happenings-of-royal-challengers-bangalore-in-the-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Royal Challengers Bangalore</a>, Mumbai Indians managed to win a silent tie-breaker which made Pollard the joint highest-paid player in the 2010 IPL auction.

He has been loyal to the franchise and has seen it all, whether they have been winning IPL trophies or they have had a poor season which led them to miss out on a playoff spot.

He is known to be a powerful batsman who can clear the ropes with ease. Unlike Rohit and Rayudu, &#8216;Polly&#8217; won&#8217;t be the most consistent batsman but he has the ability to win the match on his own if he gets into his groove. In recent times, he has followed a slow approach in the beginning of his innings but once he takes off, it is very difficult to stop him.

Pollard scored 60* in just 32 balls in the 2013 IPL final as Mumbai Indians went on to win their maiden IPL title. Last year, he smashed 10 sixes in a single innings as his score of 83 helped Mumbai defeat Kings XI Punjab. The Caribbean giant has scored a total of 2755 runs with a brilliant strike rate of 146.77 and picked up 56 wickets in his IPL career which has lasted 148 matches so far.

At the 2016 IPL auction, Mumbai Indians purchased Krunal Pandya for INR 2 crore. Krunal Pandya is the definition of a utility player. he is never out of the game as he will contribute either with the bat or with the ball. If he&#8217;s having a bad game in both those fields, he will definitely take a blinder of a catch or save some crucial runs by a diving effort.

He has the knack of performing well under pressure. In the final of IPL 2017, Mumbai Indians&#8217; top order collapsed but Krunal&#8217;s 47 made sure they would reach a decent total and each run was important as they won the title by 1 run.

The modern game is all about having players who can adapt to different situations and Krunal is very good at doing that. Moreover, his all-round ability allows him to pick crucial wickets with his<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ashes-2019-jack-leach-produces-a-left-arm-spinners-delight-to-dismiss-marcus-harris/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> left-arm spin </a>and also to give a boost in the middle order. Krunal has picked up 40 wickets in 55 matches which is very good considering he doesn&#8217;t bowl his full quota of 4 overs in all matches.

Krunal has scored 891 runs in his IPL career so far at an impressive strike rate of 146.06. His performances for the side has seen him gradually getting chances in the national setup for the shorter format of the game. Krunal has been an important part of the Mumbai Indians ever since he joined them and he was an easy inclusion in this XI.

Hardik is the younger brother of Krunal but in terms of experience for both Mumbai Indians and the Indian national team, he is definitely senior to his brother. He is also an all-rounder but unlike his brother, Hardik is a fast-medium bowling all-rounder.

It would be safe to say that he has established himself as India&#8217;s best all-rounder in the last three years. Hardik was retained by Mumbai Indians in the 2018 player auction for a whopping 11 crore and he has proved his value by performing well with the bat, ball and in the field.

Along with Rohit Sharma and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/jasprit-bumrah-and-jofra-archer-are-very-similar-faf-du-plessis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jasprit Bumrah</a>, Hardik has been Mumbai Indians&#8217; most important player in the last 3 editions of the IPL. He has scored 250+ runs in the last 3 seasons and taken 14+ wickets in the last 2 seasons. He was exceptional in the 2019 campaign as he scored 402 runs and took 14 wickets.

In 2018, the Baroda all-rounder took 18 wickets, which was the highest by a Mumbai Indians bowler, even more than Jasprit Bumrah, which speaks volumes about how good an all-rounder Pandya can be. In 2019, he took his batting to another level and proved himself as a real match-winner for Mumbai Indians. He had a strong average of 44 in the 2019 campaign which is mind-boggling when you take into consideration he is not a top-order batsman.

Harbhajan Singh was a legend for Mumbai Indians. He played for them since the inception of the IPL till the 2017 campaign. He helped them win 3 IPL trophies in 2013, 2015 and 2017. He also captained them to their first CLT20 win in 2011.

Bhajji has taken 150 wickets in his IPL career, 127 of which came in a 10-year IPL stint with the Mumbai Indians wherein the off-spinner played 136 matches. He is the 3rd highest wicket-taker in IPL history, only behind <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/no-one-gave-me-a-satisfactory-answer-on-my-axing-from-the-indian-team-amit-mishra/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Amit Mishra</a> and former Mumbai Indians teammate Lasith Malinga. His most successful IPL season with the ball was the 2013 campaign where he picked up 24 wickets at a measly economy rate of 6.98 runs.

Harbhajan Singh holds the record of bowling the most number of dot balls in IPL history with a total of 1249 dot balls. He was also a leader on the pitch for the Mumbai Indians. He has captained Mumbai Indians for a few matches in 2008 in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar as well as the 2012 season. Even when he hasn&#8217;t been the captain, his inputs to Rohit Sharma were invaluable.

Some fans would argue that Corey Anderson or <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/i-dont-think-you-can-get-me-out-with-your-left-arm-parthiv-patel-recalls-sledging-mitchell-johnson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mitchell Johnson</a> deserve to be in the team, but Mitchell McClenaghan has done more than enough for Mumbai Indians to stake his claim in their All-Time XI. In 2015, Mumbai Indians bought McClenaghan for a mere INR 30 lakh.

He took 18 wickets in his debut campaign as Rohit Sharma lifted the IPL trophy for the 2nd time. He followed that season by picking up 17, 19 and 14 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. In his first four years, the Kiwi left-handed pacer managed to dismiss 68 batsmen in 51 matches.

His consistency in picking up wickets made him a lethal weapon in Rohit Sharma&#8217;s arsenal of bowling options. He has been criticised for conceding too many runs which is visible in his high economy rate of 8.49 but he more than makes up for it by picking up a lot of wickets. The title of &#8220;Glass Cannon&#8221; suits a bowler like him because although his attacking input is high, his defensive ability is poor. In the most recent season, he picked up 3 wickets in 5 games.

If you look at the leading run-scorers in IPL history, there are a few batsmen who could overtake each other as there isn&#8217;t a huge difference in runs scored. But, Lasith Malinga has been the highest wicket-taker of the IPL for a decade.

It&#8217;s astonishing how he has played 30-40 matches less compared to other leading wicket-takers, having missed an entire season and a few matches here and there due to injury, but he still has a 13 wicket lead in the list of all-time leading wicket-takers in IPL. Malinga has been the only player to have represented Mumbai Indians in some or the other capacity since the start of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/asia-cup-officially-postponed-sri-lanka-to-host-the-tournament-in-june-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">tournament</a>.

Although he didn&#8217;t play a match in 2008, he was still a part of the squad. In 2016, he was ruled out because of a knee injury. In 2018, he took the role of a bowling mentor but made a comeback to the squad in 2019 and is also in the squad for the 2020 IPL. Malinga is the definition of consistency. He has only failed to cross the 15 wicket mark in 1 out of his 9 seasons at Mumbai Indians. His peak was in the 2011 campaign where he took 28 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 13.39 and a stingy economy rate of 5.95.

Jasprit Bumrah is another product of Mumbai Indians&#8217; great scouting network. He was only 19 years old when Mumbai Indians signed him in the 2013 IPL auction and his uncanny action was the talk of the town when he faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in his debut match where he picked up 3 wickets.

He played a few matches in the next few years but he really caught the attention of cricket fans worldwide in the 2016 IPL season. He picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches and was a constant threat to opposition batsmen. He is very similar to <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/someone-will-have-to-change-his-run-up-routine-sachin-tendulkars-hilarious-dig-at-lasith-malinga-after-saliva-ban/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Malinga </a>due to three reasons; specialist death bowler, unorthodox action and can bowl slow deliveries and yorkers almost at will.

Bumrah has been one of the best bowlers in the last 4 seasons of the IPL as he has not only picked up 15-20 wickets in each season but his economy rate has been nothing short of unreal considering he is asked to bowl at the death.

The speedster has taken 82 wickets in 77 games in his IPL career and has gone on to become one of the best bowlers in the world not only in T20s but also in ODIs and Test matches. Being only 26 years old, he has a lot of time to improve and it is scary thinking of how good he can become.
