Mumbai Indians brand has become even bigger than Reliance, says Mukesh Ambani
"Mumbai Indians came silently and unexpectedly in our life and now it has become an integral part of all our feelings and our being," Nita Ambani said.
Chairman of the Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani said that his wife Nita Ambani has overtaken him to build a brand bigger than Reliance – the Mumbai Indians brand.
A founding member franchise of the 8-teams league, Mumbai Indians are two-time winners of the IPL, first in 2013 and then in 2015, and they’ve also two Champions League titles to emerge as one of the most competitive teams in the tourney.
“I have to congratulate Nita. A lot of us at Reliance say that we are very proud of what Reliance has done over the years, but I think with both her school (Dhirubhai Ambani International School) and cricket (Mumbai Indians) Nita has built a bigger brand for Reliance, the proud husband told on the occasion of MI’s 10 years’ celebration at the Ambani residence.
Nita, who has given her heart and soul to the MI team since the past 10 years, described her journey as ‘magical and memorable’ She went on to say that the team, which became an unexpected part of her life, has given her many memories and feelings, and she would not trade her journey with MI for anything.
“Mumbai Indians came silently and unexpectedly in our life and now it has become an integral part of all our feelings and our being. It has been one of the most beautiful journeys that presented us, 10 years of wonderful memories. 10 years of new friendship and bonding, and 10 years of prayers, but we will not trade these 10 years for anything else”
She also credited Anil Kumble for the team’s maiden IPL win, saying it was his brilliant mentorship that did wonders. She also acknowledged the contribution from Ricky Ponting, Zaheer Khan and Shaun Pollack, and captains Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma.
While the husband praised the wife, Nita was quick to credit Anil for her success. She hinted that she didn’t know anything about cricket, and it was her husband who inspired her to take up the role.
“I thank my husband Mukesh for challenging me to take up a role that I was not ready for and neither qualified to do. It was his unconditional faith in me that inspired me to understand the game of cricket”
