Mumbai Indians should not send Kieron Pollard below No.4 or No.5: Gautam Gambhir
Heaping praise on the burly all-rounder, the former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir said that the Mumbai Indians management will be ecstatic on seeing the belligerent form of Kieron Pollard.
West Indies limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard has been wonderful in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2020). The swashbuckling all-rounder has been outstanding as the captain for his team Trinbago Knight Riders as under his leadership the team finished first on the points table after winning all the 10 matches and will now be looking forward to winning the title.
Also, the Trinidadian cricketer has been pretty outstanding with the bat as in 9 games he has smashed 207 runs at an average of 51.75. Heaping praise on the burly all-rounder, the former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir said that the Mumbai Indians management will be ecstatic on seeing the belligerent form of Kieron Pollard.
Speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’ show, Gambhir reckoned that though Mumbai’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene will be happy seeing the performance of Pollard, the franchise should make sure that they don’t send the all-rounder below No. 4 or 5 in the batting line-up and should utilize the firepower player judiciously.
“Absolutely and you will also want to see that he continues this kind of form in the IPL. But the main thing is to see how Mumbai Indians use him,” Gambhir stated.
“Mahela Jayawardene will be the happiest to see Kieron Pollard’s batting. If you want to use Kieron Pollard’s form, then you should not send Kieron Pollard below No.4 or No.5 in the batting order because you have firepower,” he added.
Kieron Pollard can play at any position: Ajit Agarkar
Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar, who is the third-highest wicket-taker for India in One Day Internationals, also spoke on the same lines as Gambhir. He asserted that Pollard can play at any position but his full potential will be utilized if he comes to bat at No. 5 and No. 6. The former Indian fast bowler also recalled Pollard’s match-winning knock against Barbados Tridents, where Pollard’s insane knock helped his side to snatch the win from the jaws of defeat.
“Mumbai Indians will be very happy with Kieron Pollard’s form. We have seen a match against Barbados Tridents which was appearing to be lost, when he came and won it alone. He has this capability as a match-winner of winning a lost match on his own.” Agarkar said.
“At this moment, he can play at any position. I think he has come at No.4 on one or two occasions but when he comes at No.5 or No.6, the bowlers are under pressure and if his form remains like this, the next 2 months will be enjoyable to watch him,” he concluded.
